I heard that a JW had just moved into my building from Colorado. A few weeks passed and nothing. But just tonight a complete stranger walks up to me like we're old buds and asks, "How's that car running?" He then proceeds to discuss the weather. I was immediately struck by his lack of social grace, I mean isn't that a weird way to introduce yourself? We never exchanged names or anything. He ends it with "See ya later." OK? I guess so. My gut tells me this guy is the new JW and the elders gave him my description and told him to talk to me. Anyone else dealt with a mole? I'm just going to avoid him, but I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience.

If you considered going back to the hall....
by JH inif you considered going back to the hall after posting here for a while, would you hesistate telling us?

What I said was completely out of line and I am sorry. The truth is that if "I" went back to the hall it would be out of weakness. I didn't give the slightest thought to anyone else's circumstance and I certainly had no right to judge. Plus I woke up on the wrong side of bed. I humbly ask forgiveness.

Obviously he is referring to the mispronunciation of the English version Jehovah. Get a clue!

Yeah, I've heard that pronunciation, and I HATE it!!! People from the New London, CT area have a most peculiar accent, and by peculiar I mean rage-inducing. If a short-u sound is at the end of a word (Jehovah) they pronounce it "er", thus Jehover. However, the words that should end with "er" are pronounced as a short-u. They pronounce Hoover as "Hoovah." They switched the two sounds and it will drive you to frenetic hair-pulling if exposed for too long. Once in a while, the visiting speaker would talk like this, and I would have to leave for an hour.
It's the weirdest thing, only exists in a few (5 or 6) towns. You've been warned.

To anyone who wants to return to the hall, please make sure you really think it through first!

If You Were Never A JW What Type of Life Would You Think You'd Have Now?
by minimus in.
would you have gone to college, gotten a great job, become a businessman, politician, priest,........what??

I would have gone to college. Not to brag, but my standardized test scores were always at least at the 97th percentile. What a waste. Also, I would have been allowed to date like everyone else did. I would have social skills and probably be married. Wow, that just opened a can of worms! So glad I posted.

Recent mentions of "This Generation"
by Nosferatu ini was just reading the thread "questions on the generation teaching", and someone mentioned the 1995 watchtower article where is said this:rather than provide a rule for measuring time, the term "generation" as used by jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period, with their identifying characteristics.. .
what i'm wondering is, has the wts mentioned the word "generation" since this article?
are they sticking to this explanation in any way, shape, or form?

Most Jw's haven't even noticed the change and those that have chalk it up to Jehovah's ever moving organization and new light.
I thank you.
But seriously, those words as spoken by Jesus were fulfilled within 40 years (the 70 A.D. destruction of Jerusalem) How the Writing Committee can sleep at night is beyond me. They probably distill their own "sleeping aid" up at the ol' farm.
